Discover the low-poo method: the ultimate curl care

Curly hair is beautiful and unique, but it also needs special care and attention. If you have curls, you probably know the problems with frizzy, dry hair and little definition. Fortunately, there is a method especially for curly locks: the 'low-poo' method. We tell you what the method does and how to take your curls to the next level.

What is the low-poo method?

Low-poo is a method for healthy, hydrated and bouncy curly hair, born out of passion for hair care. The meaning of 'Poo' is shampoo. The meaning of 'low' is that it contains few harmful ingredients such as sulphates, parabens and silicones. Curls are naturally drier than straight hair. With regular shampoos you rinse the important oils from your hair, making it dry faster. With the low-poo method you use hair products that gently cleanse your curls. This way you prevent dehydration and you will soon notice that your hair will look healthier.

What is Low Poo Shampoo?

Ordinary shampoos contain sulphates and silicones. These substances remove the natural oils from your hair. This can make your curly hair dry and frizzy. Low-poo shampoo has been formulated to gently cleanse your curls. They contain mild, sulfate-free cleansers that clean your curls without robbing them of their natural moisture balance. This makes low-poo shampoo very suitable for people with a sensitive scalp and curly hair.

Our Keune hair experts have developed the new, innovative curl line, Confident Curl, which is perfectly tailored to the needs of curly hair. This helps prevent your hair from drying out, and you'll soon notice that your hair looks healthier.

The benefits of the low-poo method for curly hairPreservation of natural oils

Curly hair is naturally drier than straight hair. The oils on the scalp cannot reach the curl ends properly because of the curl shape. Low-poo shampoo retains essential oils in the hair, keeping it hydrated and less frizzy.

Reduces frizz

Frizzy hair is one of the biggest challenges for people with curly hair. Low-poo shampoo gently cleanses, prevents damage to hair cuticles and makes hair smoother and less frizzy. Low-poo shampoo promotes the restoration of natural curl patterns. It removes silicones and styling products that weigh down the curls, so your curls are bouncy again.

Healthy scalp

A healthy scalp is essential for promoting strong and shiny curls. Low-poo shampoo keeps the scalp clean and balanced, allowing your curls to shine.

How do you start with the low-poo method?

1. The Last sulfate wash: Before switching to low-poo, cleanse your hair thoroughly with a shampoo containing sulfates. This is called the last sulfate wash. This will remove any buildup and prep your curls for the new routine. It is good to occasionally wash your hair and scalp with a sulfate shampoo. This washes residues of styling products from your hair and prevents build-up that can weigh down your curls.

2. Choose a low-poo shampoo: Look for a sulfate-free shampoo specifically formulated for curly hair. This one will cleanse your curls without disturbing their natural oils. 3. Wash your hair as little as possible: We recommend washing your hair once or twice a week. Many curlies even wash their hair every other week. It's important to listen to your own hair and adjust the frequency based on how your hair feels and looks. If you notice that your hair is getting greasy or has less bounce. Could it be time to wash your hair. On the other hand; if your hair feels dry, you can wait longer between washes. 4. Silicone-free conditioner: Use our Confident Curl silicone-free conditioner to nourish and hydrate your hair. Distribute it evenly through your curls and leave it in for a few minutes for deep hydration.

5. Scrunching: A crucial step in the low-poo method is scrunching to apply styling products. Use the Leave-in conditioner for Wavy, Curly, or Coily hair and gently scrunch it into your wet curls for beautiful definition. It's important to do this on soaking wet hair, not towel-dried hair. 6. Plop: After washing, dry your hair with a cotton T-shirt or microfiber towel. This reduces frizz and promotes the formation of your natural curl pattern. Read here how to plop your hair. After popping, we recommend blow-drying your hair with a diffuser. For people with beautiful curls, the low-poo method is worth a try! Everyone's hair is different. Experiment to discover what works best for your curls and scalp.
