After back-to-school and Halloween, it’s just a hop skip and a jump to the holiday season. For salons, this marks one of the busiest times of the year. While perking up your product sales and turning blondes into autumn auburn, it is a great time to discuss with your clients about upgrading their winter hair care routine. Keep reading for a few must-haves to keep their hair looking shiny and healthy. We spoke with Keune Regional Educator, Megan Townsend about what clients should add to their routine this season.

When chatting with Townsend, she mentioned that one thing most clients struggle with during the winter season is static electricity. When it comes to hair, static electricity is caused by of a lack of moisture. It is imperative to find a way to add moisture without weighing down the hair. 

Prep

In the salon, Townsend recommends prepping your client’s hair with moisture-rich products, such as  and  then following up with  During their appointment, show them exactly which products you are using. Suggest a few key items for them to take home to incorporate into their winter hair care routine. Showing them the results and letting them feel their hair is key to the experience as well as making the sale.

 

Styling & Finishing

When it comes to styling and finishing, Townsend always recommends, which can be used on both wet and dry hair to tame flyaways. For clients with fine texture, she recommends for weightless shine. If your client has a thicker texture in need of more control, Townsend recommends  which adds shine while it aids in detangling.

Color-Treated Hair

For color-treated clients, winters can be especially tough on hair. Suggest clients book a glossing treatment every six weeks to add shine and vibrancy to winter-stressed hair. Additionally, Townsend urges clients to invest in color-safe shampoo and conditioner and add a leave-in with UV protection to create long-lasting color and a healthy finish.
